🗓 Sunday, June 28 – St. Irenaeus, Bishop, Martyr, and Doctor of the Church
A disciple of St. Polycarp, who had himself been taught by St. John the Apostle, St. Irenaeus forms a direct link to the Apostolic Age. He defended the true faith against Gnostic heresies through his famous work Against Heresies. His life reminds us that Sacred Tradition faithfully preserves the teaching handed down by the Apostles.
🗓 Monday, June 29 – Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles
This great solemnity honors the two foremost Apostles of the early Church. St. Peter, chosen by Christ as the rock upon which He would build His Church, and St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, gave their lives in witness to the Gospel. Their complementary missions continue to shape the Church to this day.
🗓 Tuesday, June 30 – The First Holy Martyrs of the Church of Rome
These early Christians suffered under Emperor Nero following the Great Fire of Rome in A.D. 64. Though many of their names are unknown, the Church honors their extraordinary witness and steadfast faith. Their sacrifice helped lay the foundations of the Christian community in Rome.
🗓 Wednesday, July 1 – St. Junípero Serra, Priest (U.S.A.)
A Franciscan missionary, St. Junípero Serra established missions throughout what is now California, bringing the Gospel and the sacraments to countless people. Despite many hardships, he remained tireless in his missionary work. His life reflects the Church's call to proclaim Christ to every nation.
🗓 Thursday, July 2 – Sts. Processus and Martinian, Martyrs
According to ancient tradition, these Roman soldiers were converted while guarding St. Peter in prison. After receiving Baptism, they courageously professed the faith and suffered martyrdom. Their conversion reminds us that God's grace can transform even those who once opposed Him.
🗓 Friday, July 3 – St. Thomas the Apostle
Known for doubting the Resurrection until he saw the risen Christ, St. Thomas ultimately made one of the clearest professions of faith in Scripture: "My Lord and my God!" Ancient tradition holds that he carried the Gospel as far as India, where he was martyred. His story encourages us to bring our honest doubts to Christ, who strengthens true faith.
🗓 Saturday, July 4 – St. Pier Giorgio Frassati
Though he lived only twenty-four years, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati became known for his joyful holiness, love for the poor, and deep Eucharistic devotion. An avid mountaineer, he famously said, "Verso l'alto" ("To the heights"), expressing his desire to seek God above all things. His witness continues to inspire Catholics, especially young people, to pursue sanctity in ordinary life.
