Saints of the Week | Sept 28 – Oct 4 | St. Wenceslaus, St. Jerome, St. Thérèse, St. Francis of Assisi, & Angels

Each week, the Church honors holy men and women whose lives point us to Christ. As we prepare for the week ahead, let’s draw inspiration from these saints on the Catholic calendar, each offering grace and guidance in our lives today.

September 28 – October 4, 2025

🗓 Sunday, September 28 – St. Wenceslaus
Duke of Bohemia in the 10th century, Wenceslaus governed with justice and defended the Church in a time of political unrest. Betrayed and murdered by his own brother, he was hailed as a martyr and became patron of the Czech people. His feast celebrates a ruler who lived holiness in public life, uniting faith with leadership.

🗓 Monday, September 29 – Sts. Michael, Gabriel & Raphael, Archangels
This feast celebrates the three great archangels named in Scripture. Michael is the protector and defender against evil, Gabriel the messenger who announced the Incarnation, and Raphael the healer and guide of travelers. Their mission reminds us of God’s providential care.

🗓 Tuesday, September 30 – St. Jerome, Priest & Doctor of the Church
A fiery scholar of the 4th century, Jerome devoted his life to the study and translation of Scripture. His Latin Vulgate became the standard Bible of the Western Church for over a millennium. Though known for his sharp temper, he was equally known for his deep love of Christ and Sacred Scripture.

🗓 Wednesday, October 1 – St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus (the Little Flower)
A young Carmelite nun from Lisieux, France, Thérèse lived a hidden life of prayer, offering every small sacrifice to God in her “little way” of love and trust. She died at just 24, yet her autobiography, Story of a Soul, has inspired millions. Named a Doctor of the Church, she is patroness of missions, showing that holiness is found in fidelity to daily life.

🗓 Thursday, October 2 – The Holy Guardian Angels
On this feast the Church honors the angels appointed by God to guard and guide every soul. Their mission is to protect us from danger, prompt us toward good, and lead us to eternal life. Devotion to our Guardian Angel is a reminder of God’s personal care for each one of His children.

🗓 Friday, October 3 – St. Theodora Guérin (Mother Theodore)
Born in France in 1798, Theodora entered religious life and later came to Indiana, where she founded the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She built schools and orphanages across the Midwest, bringing Catholic education and care to the frontier. She is honored as one of America’s canonized saints.

🗓 Saturday, October 4 – St. Francis of Assisi
One of the most beloved saints of all, Francis renounced wealth to embrace poverty and follow Christ in simplicity. He rebuilt ruined chapels, preached repentance, and founded the Franciscan Order. With St. Clare, he inspired the Poor Clares, and his followers carried his vision across the world. Marked by the stigmata, he bore the wounds of Christ in his own body. His Canticle of the Sun praises God through all creation, and his radical love for the poor, the Eucharist, and the Gospel continues to inspire people of every faith.
